THIS WEEK'S MEETING
Thursday Jan. 21 at 7PM We welcome Dr. Julie Ann Juliano to speak to us about Polio Plus and Covid and Rotary's mission to help prevent both diseases.
Our NHS Interact Club attended a Zoom meeting with the Madison Interact Club to learn about the food drive program they've developed to help with food insecurity. Madison Interact presented their powerpoint to our club and we need to see if it is duplicatable in Nutley, with help from Nutley Rotary. NHS Interact will meet tomorrow to discuss.
John Monaco is working hard on our service project to help veterans. Now that we have secured new benches, our plan is to provide 2 new planters for the outside entrance. We also want to spruce up the front of the building by removing the concrete and replacing it, adding flag poles and planting a garden. Once the new concrete is set, John has arranged to have it painted by a local artist. Thanks to John, we will be submitting an article to the Nutley Journal as well.
INTERACT GIVE A SOCK SERVICE PROJECT AND FUNDRAISER: Our boxes are filling up and Interact has also received $160 in donations for this drive!
Please continue to spread the word about our collaboration with Interact. We are asking for sock and mask donations at the Library, Personal Touch Florist, Blue Foundry Bank and Investors Savings Bank. Monetary donations welcome also. Please Venmo Megan @Megan-DellaFave or @Jessica-Sandra with "INTERACT Sock Drive" in the subject line.
Let's also support our Pampered Cheffundraiser, which has been restarted!
Stay safe!
BEING ROTARIAN
Bob Peters is the longest serving member of our club with 46 years of service. He stepped up to handle the Gift of Life Raffle and will be driving the proceeds and stubs up to Lake Hopatcong to make sure they are received. (You still have til Jan. 25 to ask Bob for tickets.)
Bob is active in our community as well. He is a member of the American Legion and the Fire Department, and in addition to being our Treasurer for many years, has served as Treasurer for several other organizations.
Bob was our President twice, and is a past District Officer, as well as a Paul Harris Fellow, Bequest Society and Sustaining Member.
Bob is a regular for our in-person service projects when we used to have them! Bob's passion for Rotary is a great example for all of us!
At Rotary, we have no tolerance for racism. Promoting respect, celebrating diversity, demanding ethical leadership, and working tirelessly to advance peace are central tenets of our work.
We have more work to do to create more just, open and welcoming communities for all people.
We know there are no easy fixes and that challenging conversations and work lie before all of us. Rotary’s strength has long been our ability and commitment to bringing people together. We will tap into that strength now as we stand with those who are working for peace and justice.
Rotary will do our part to listen, learn and take action to ensure that we continue to contribute to making positive change.
